WTC

I  forgot what I ate for lunch yesterday already but I remember exactly what I was doing and where I was eight years ago today. On September 11, 2001, I was riding the N train over the Brooklyn Bridge on my way to school. There was a lot of congestion. The trains were slower than ever. I was going to be late for class and I was in a horrible mood. We sat on the bridge for a few minutes and the train conductor asked for our attention. He said, “Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t know what is going on, we all don’t know what is going on, but if you look out the left windows, I don’t think that’s just a fire”. I looked out the window and saw the first tower with the thickest biggest smoke cloud over it. It’s been eight years and yet it feels like it can’t have been that long. Eight years later, I hope all Americans feel safer and our government understands what is needed to protect the people of this country.

Fashion Night Out New York

September 10th, 2009 kate No comments

If the sole purpose of fashion night was to get people to shop, I’m not sure it worked. In fact, there’s were no lines for the register at any of the stores we went to. It makes sense. How can one shop when there are so many distractions around?? Grace and I decided to stay downtown in Soho for the festivities. We had a blast. It was crazy! Grace turned to me and said, “Wow, Kate, this is like Woodstock for fashionistas”.

Favorite Freebies: Ricksaw Dumplings, King Cone, bite size cupcakes, champagne, Chanel manicure!!!

Celebrity Sitings: Estelle, Sienna Miller

Designer Sitings: Rachel Roy, Rag & Bone

Favorite Street Scene: People drunk off their minds stumbling through the streets, people drinking individual size champagne bottles with funnels stuck to them!!! WTF? We couldn’t find the store handing those out.

Longest Lines: Bape, Rachel Roy

Bought: Fashion Night Out Tee (40% goes to support the 9/11 Fund), Dior nail polish, a little black dress

We’re so tired. Tomorrow we’ll funnel the pictures in. Good night!

First Lady Obama Channels Jackie Kennedy at Obama Healthcare Speech

September 9th, 2009 grace No comments

Wow, our First Lady Michelle Obama was undeniably channeling Jackie Kennedy tonight during President Obama’s speech to congress on universal health care. She looked stunning in the raspberry/dusty rose skirt suit. I love the bracelet sleeves!!! And wait, the outfit is not completed without one of her signature brooches and bows.

Life Magazine Publishes Rare Photos of Jackie Kennedy

September 9th, 2009 grace No comments

Like most people, I am often captivated by anything Kennedy. Jacqueline Kennedy was my favorite of course. She is a classic and timeless beauty. Not only was she fashion forward, she was iconic in the 6os, 70s and even so today. I was delighted when I came across these photos of her:

Glamour Magazine: Plus Size Model

September 7th, 2009 grace No comments

In the September issue, a woman who appears less than perfect graces page 194. Her thighs appear thicker and there are folds on her stomach. The photo is raw, untouched, unphotoshopped, just as. The editor received many letters from readers praising her for using a full size model for the spread. Will there be a shift from wafer-thin models to models a-la-naturale? Will a full size model sell as well as a size 2 model? Watch this video from www.cnn.com.

Anthropologie: Home is Where The Heart Is

September 2nd, 2009 grace No comments

The August issue of the Anthropologie catalogue arrived in the mailbox a few weeks ago but I haven’t found any spare time to browse through it until yesterday evening. It’s no secret I like the company’s clothing line, sometimes whimsical but always romantic. But to be honest, I’ve never paid much attention to the company’s furniture line. On page 12 is a beautiful tufted leather sofa in a beautiful shade of rich saffron yellow – I immediately thought of Kate. She loves this color! Didn’t the Obamas furnish the White House with some pieces from Anthropologie? What’s good enough for Mr. & Mrs. President is definitely good enough for me. Here’s the delicious piece:

I love the tuft look but $6,000 for a sofa needs some pondering over. In the meantime, here are a three cheaper alternatives after the jump. Read more…
